I first learned how to braid as a kid using those old schooled fringed sheets, my fingers finding the motions intuitive— like it was meant for me. No one could convince me to stop, so my sisters eventually let me practice on their hair, and much to everyone’s surprise, I was a natural.
At 12 years old, I had my first client and my family saw enough potential in me to dedicate an entire room in our house to my makeshift salon.
I wish I could say from there it was happily ever after. But my journey to becoming a six-figure stylist wasn’t without trial.
For many years I styled from my home with no other option, and had my humble beginnings as a shampoo assistant in a salon like most aspiring stylists. I knew hair like the back of my hand, but I had to learn the ins and outs of the hair business all on my own.
Thankfully I leveraged social media to my advantage while getting acquainted with the formalities of my first love, and grew my Instagram community from 1,500 to 28k+ in one year. It has been through seeing myself as a brand and making the commitment to operate as one that I’ve grasped the depth of my trade and maximized every resource to get where I am today.
I’ve monetized my skillset and my online presence so well that I’ve rarely been employed by others since. And when I was, it was on set for TV and film, in corporate salons for Regis, and through a curation of my own preferred network.
I’m able to travel, invest, and live the life I love by simply taking the time to refine my craft and inform myself of what it means to have a reputable and organized styling business.
Now I’ve got my sights set on helping beauty professionals grow and scale their businesses by taking control and implementing systems, so they can raise their prices with confidence and actualize their goals.
